Protests and Solidarity Across Karachi
On Monday, rallies, protests, and conferences were held across Karachi to mark one year of the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza. The events, organized by various political parties, civil society groups, and student organizations, expressed solidarity with the people of Palestine and condemned Israeli brutality in the region.
Sindh Assembly Leads Solidarity Efforts
At the Sindh Assembly, Speaker Awais Qadir Shah, alongside other legislators, addressed the media, expressing unified support for the Palestinian cause. Despite political differences, Shah emphasized that all political parties in Pakistan stood firmly with the people of Palestine.
Jamaat-i-Islami and Other Political Rallies
Jamaat-i-Islami organized a major rally at Power House Chowrangi in North Karachi, led by Karachi chief Monem Zafar. He condemned the Israeli regime’s actions, stating that Hamas and other freedom fighters had exposed Israel’s vulnerabilities. He claimed that nearly 45,000 Palestinians, including women and children, had been killed by Israeli forces.
Educational Institutions Show Support
The Islami Jamiat Talaba held a Palestine Solidarity Walk at the University of Karachi, symbolizing student support for Palestine. Similarly, schoolchildren took to the streets in rallies organized by the Markazi Muslim League, displaying Palestinian flags and banners.
Journalists’ Protest Against Israeli Atrocities
In a separate protest, Karachi’s journalists marched from the Karachi Press Club to Governor House, condemning Israeli attacks on Gaza, which have resulted in the deaths of numerous journalists. The protest was supported by multiple journalist bodies, including the Karachi Union of Journalists and the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists. They called for a UN investigation into the killings of journalists covering the conflict.
KPC Secretary Shoaib Ahmed praised the courage of Palestinian journalists and stressed that Israel must be held accountable for targeting media workers in the war zone.
Women and Children Participate in Demonstrations
Hundreds of women and children marched from Numaish intersection to Tibet Centre in a rally organized by Tehreek-e-Bedari-e-Ummat-e-Mustafa. They carried banners and placards condemning Israeli violence and called for unity among Muslim nations in the face of the aggression.
Additionally, the Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen organized a solidarity rally, which included a candlelit vigil in support of Gaza and Palestine.
Call for Unity Against Israeli Aggression
The rally participants collectively condemned Israel’s actions, viewing them as a part of Zionist ideology that undermines Islam and dehumanizes Palestinians. The calls for unity and solidarity with Palestine were echoed across all the gatherings, with participants demanding international action to stop the ongoing violence.
