Jack Leach Aims for England Test Return Before Pakistan Tour

Eager to Play Again After Strong Performance for Somerset

Jack Leach is excited about the possibility of playing for England again after taking 12 wickets in Somerset’s recent win over Durham. He hopes to be included in the England squad for the upcoming Test series in Pakistan this October.

Injury Setbacks and Competition for Place

Leach was England’s main spinner during Ben Stokes’ first year as captain, but he has only played two Tests in the last 18 months due to back and knee injuries. In his absence, his Somerset teammate Shoaib Bashir has stepped up, taking three five-wicket hauls in his first eight Tests.

Confidence in a Comeback

Leach is confident that he can regain his spot in the team for the three-match series in Pakistan. He had a strong performance in England’s 3-0 win in Pakistan in December 2022, taking 15 wickets, and believes his recent success against Durham shows he is “getting back to my best.”

“I completely understand why Bash has been selected,” Leach said. “He’s a very good bowler with a lot of potential. We’ve worked together a lot, and I’m proud of him. But with the Pakistan tour coming up, if England needs me, I’m ready to go.

Ready to Compete

“I think they will take more than one spinner, and I feel I’m getting back to my best after a tough year with injuries. Long spells like the one against Durham help a lot. It would be great if both Shoaib and I could go to Pakistan. I don’t want to get too hopeful, but I’m as determined as ever to play for England.”

Focus on Somerset’s Title Hopes

Somerset’s 293-run victory over Durham has brought them closer to Championship leaders Surrey. The two teams will face each other at Taunton starting September 9.

“For now, I want to do everything I can to help Somerset win the Championship,” Leach added. “We’re all excited about playing Surrey at Taunton next in one of three very important games.

Final Push for the Title

“We’re still in the fight for the title, which is where we wanted to be at this point in the season. The pitch against Durham suited our style. You had to be patient as a bowler, but if you kept bowling well, you were rewarded.”
