NEW DELHI:
Veteran Bollywood actress and Member of Parliament Jaya Bachchan has voiced her frustration at being addressed by her husband Amitabh Bachchan’s name in Parliament.

During a recent Rajya Sabha session, Jaya Bachchan was referred to as “Shrimati Jaya Amitabh Bachchan.” In response, she pointedly asked, “Thank you, sir. You do know what Amitabh means, right?”

The Rajya Sabha Chairperson suggested that Jaya could officially change her name on election certificates and official records, drawing from his own experience in 1989.

Jaya Bachchan replied assertively, “I take pride in my own name and also in Amitabh Bachchan. I appreciate all his achievements. But you all have started this new drama about the name. I am very happy with my name.” She also proposed that male members of Parliament should consider using their wives’ names alongside their own.

This comment echoes Jaya Bachchan’s previous statements expressing her desire to be recognized as an independent individual.
